Jaipur: The Pink City of India
Rajasthan is the 'place of kings' (rajaon ka sthan) is one of the largest tourist destinations in India. It not only attracts tourists from different parts of India but also from the world. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and is named after its founder king Sawai Jai Singh. Jaipur is painted in terracotta pink color since the time of the king and is also known as Pink City.

Jaipur has a hot semi-arid climate. It is extremely hot during summers and has mild winters. So the best time to visit Jaipur is supposed to be October to March.
What are the sightseeing places in Jaipur?
To be honest entire Jaipur is something worth watching. The old buildings painted in terracotta pink color with lots of windows in them look amazing and unique. The fusion of Hindu and Mughal architectural buildings is hard to find in any other state. There are certain tourist attraction places though in the city that are mentioned below.
1. Amer Fort - Built under Raja Man Singh who had a great intellect. Everything in the fort is planned and developed as per the Vastu and engineered in such a way that makes it the most luxurious fort of that time. It has beautiful display of Hindu and Mughal art all around. If you are visiting the fort then taking a guide would be worth. If you want to take some souvenier then you can buy it from National Handloom Village Cooperation Amer which is located down the fort.
2. Jal Mahal - It is a Palace on the Man Sagar lake. It displays Rajput architecture. It is not open for public but only pictures can be taken from outside. One need to take special permission to enter the mahal which is hard to get. Jal mahal has a beautiful garden on its terrace.
3.Albert Hall - It is the museum of Rajasthan. It preserves the rich art of Rajasthan. It has spectacular collection of jewelry, paintings, carpets, stones, metal scluptures and work on crystal. 4.City Palace - Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh- II when he shifted his capital from Amer to Jaipur. It is now museum dedicated to Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh - II. The royal faimy still houses here. It is one of the most busiest tourist spots in Jaipur.
5. Jantar Mantar - Built on the idea of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II who had keen interest in astronomy, mathematics and architecture. There are 5 such Jantar Mantars in India at Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjan, Mathura and Varanasi. Jantar Mantar at Mathura has been destroyed ages ago. Jantar Mantar has collection of astronomical instruments used at that time. Jaipur has 19 such astronomical instruments. Jaipur has the largest sundial in the world. Jaipur's Jantar Mantar has been recognised as the world heritage centre by UNESCO.
Foods to try in Jaipur?
Food in Jaipur has a rich taste. Rajasthani cuisines are rich in flavours. They are mostly spicy and oily in nature. Food is always served with lots and lots of onions and chillies as Rajasthanis are fond of hot and spicy food. If you too love such flavour then Rajasthan is the place for you, but if you cannot handle strong flavour then give special instruction of keeping chillies low in food to the restaurant manger while placing the order. Some of the most popular cuisines of Rajasthan are:
1. Dal Bati Choorma - Bati which is hard wheat ball is crushed and then Dal (lentils) is poured over it along with ghee (butter) to double its taste. It is served with choorma which is a sweet delicacy of Rajasthan.
2.Laal Maans -This is actually a mutton curry cooked uniquely in the puree of red Mathania chillies of Jodhpur and yoghurt. It is rich in garlic and tastes amazing with chapati and rice.
3. Kaju curry - It is a curry made with cashew nuts in it. It has tangy sweet flavour. For vegetarians this curry is a must try food.
4. Sev-Tamatar - It is a curry made out of tomatoes, desi masalas and served with lots of sev made of besan. It has a tangy spicy flavour and tastes even better with Bajra roti.
5. Ghevar - If you are fond of sweets, you must try this unique Rajasthani round shaped sweet dish.
